Soaring of Nipples during baby feeding and What to Do

Soaring of Nipples during baby feeding and What to Do

A newborn’s sucking action often stimulates the flow of milk from the milk ducts when the baby latches onto the breast for feeding. This can cause the nipples to become erect or “soar” This is a normal reaction of the body.

Here are some remedies to ease the pain or discomfort you may experience when your nipples are erect while breastfeeding:

  • Ensure Proper Latch

Confirm that your baby is properly latched on to the breast. In addition to reducing nipple pain, a proper latch is essential to successful nursing. Consult a health care professional or lactation consultant if you are unsure about latch.

  • Tongue Tie

This condition is caused by a tight fold of skin connecting the underside of your child’s tongue to the floor of their mouth, which limits their ability to move. This can cause your infant to have difficulty latching and latching, which in turn can make your nipples uncomfortable. If your midwife or health visitor discovers that they have a tongue tie, your child may be referred for urgent surgery to open their tongue.

  • Check Positioning

Positioning yourself correctly is essential to nursing comfortably. Try different positions to see what works best for you and your baby. A good portion of the areola should be covered by the baby’s lips, not just the nipple.

  • Reduce Engorgement

Engorgement results when the breasts overflow with milk. If you are still in the early stages and your supply is still catching up with baby’s needs, this is what happens if you go too long without breastfeeding. Breast lumps can be painful. These can make it more difficult for your baby to latch on to the breast. If this happens, you may need to express a small amount of milk before feeding.

  • To Reduce Sore Nipples, Use Hydrogel Pads

Hydrogel pads can provide relief from pain associated with sore nipples. Manufacturers of hydrogel pads include Lansinoh and Medela. For extra cooling, you can store them in the refrigerator or use them at room temperature. Gel pads prevent your nipples from sticking to the fabric of your bra and causing chafing. This is especially useful if your nipple is already cracked or cracked.

Conclusion

Breastfeeding moms often have sore nipples, but there are strategies to manage and reduce the pain. To prevent and treat uncomfortable nipples, consult with experienced moms and collaborate with your doctor. Taking care of yourself can help both you and your baby benefit from breastfeeding if that’s what you want to do.
